Meet Fatima
Dr. Fatima La’Juan Muse is a medical family therapist, educator, small-business owner, and community advocate running for Texas House District 2.
With family roots in Hunt County, childhood summers spent in Greenville, and a home now in Commerce, Fatima has a personal connection to the communities she is seeking to represent. Her professional work has centered on listening, navigating difficult conversations, solving problems, and helping families through challenging circumstances.
She is bringing that experience to a campaign focused on the everyday concerns of people across Hunt, Hopkins, and Van Zandt counties.
My Priorities
Public Education
Wind down the voucher and ESA program responsibly, honor existing awards through the current academic year, and redirect future appropriations to public schools.
Fully fund public schools and state mandates, including special education, school safety, transportation, instruction, and student support.
Invest in competitive teacher and school-employee pay, educator retention, and a dependable Teacher Retirement System.
Reduce the outsized role of STAAR and use multiple measures of student and school performance.
Expand career, technical, agricultural, and workforce pathways, with equitable access for rural students.
Healthcare & Reproductive Health
Expand access to affordable healthcare and protect rural hospitals and providers.
Expand Medicaid for eligible working Texans while the federal government continues to cover 90% of the qualifying cost, without taking away private, employer-sponsored, Medicare, military, or retiree coverage.
Strengthen maternal healthcare and access to mental health services.
Protect access to timely care for miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, and serious pregnancy complications, with clear protections for doctors acting in good faith.
Begin by requiring state-regulated, fully insured large-group plans to cover medically necessary infertility treatment, including IVF. Medically necessary genetic testing may be covered when clinically indicated, but PGT-A is excluded.
Roads & Rural Infrastructure
Create the R3 Rural Road Revitalization Plan to repair neglected neighborhood streets and local roads in small towns, rural communities, unincorporated areas, and historically underserved neighborhoods.
Prioritize roads that have gone years without substantial repair, especially where residents have repeatedly reported problems without meaningful action.
Fund durable repairs instead of repeated temporary patches.
Direct funding toward communities with limited local resources and a documented history of infrastructure neglect.
Create a dedicated state funding stream through TxDOT and use eligible federal transportation dollars where available, without raising taxes on working families.
Taxes, Spending & Accountability
Protect working families from higher property and sales taxes while requiring major developments to pay the documented costs they create.
Provide meaningful property-tax relief without cutting public schools or essential local services.
Require a responsible, sustainable funding source before creating major new state obligations.
Require transparency and measurable public benefit from tax incentives, public contracts, and taxpayer-funded programs.
Make public spending traceable and hold government and recipients of public money accountable for results.
Responsible Growth, Water, and Data Center Accountability
Require meaningful public notice and input before major data-center and intensive-development projects move forward.
Require independent, developer-paid impact studies covering water, power, traffic, noise, heat, infrastructure, and emergency services.
Give counties authority to condition, pause, limit, or reject harmful projects in unincorporated areas.
Protect groundwater and establish a statewide 500-foot minimum setback for covered intensive facilities, while allowing local governments to require more.
Make developers pay documented infrastructure and public-service costs, prohibit secret NDAs, and require enforceable decommissioning and compliance protections.
Second Amendment & Public Safety
Protect the rights of law-abiding Texans and oppose blanket firearm bans or confiscation.
Expand free, voluntary firearm-safety education, especially for first-time and younger gun owners.
Encourage secure storage and practical safety education without making training a condition of ownership.
Use existing Texas public-safety tools effectively before creating new firearm restrictions.
Focus enforcement and crisis-response resources on actual threats and criminal conduct.
